Adam Pearcey on the Writings of Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö
We would like to draw your attention to a recent talk by Dr. Adam Pearcey, one of our advisors and our senior editor, on The Writings of Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö (1893–1959): Some Initial Discoveries from an Ongoing Translation Project with Dr. Adam Pearcey.
Adam starts with a brief account of the life of Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö, who was considered one of the greatest masters of the 20th century, and was also one of the main holders of the Longchen Nyingtik tradition. He then proceeds with presenting the different editions of his collected works and reads from some of his writings, which he then illuminates by sharing with us how these texts came about and where they were written.
Adam sheds light on many of the same translation issues that we at the Longchen Nyingtik Project are also dealing with.
Some texts by Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö on Jigme Lingpa:
Devotion that Pierces the Heart: A Prayer to the Omniscient Jigme Lingpa
Jamyang Khyentse composed this prayer to the great revealer of the Longchen Nyingtik when he passed through the master's place of residence, the Yarlung Valley, during his first trip to central Tibet in 1925.
In Praise of Jigme Lingpa’s Pre-Eminence
In these verses, Jamyang Khyentse highlights the special qualities of Jigme Lingpa (1730–1798) by describing his superiority to the majority of scholars, adepts and authors.
Composed in Darjeeling (most likely in 1958), this short invocation of Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa (1730–1798) calls upon the famed Dzogchen master and treasure-revealer by his various names and invokes his blessings and inspiration.
