Report February 2021

This month we have published three new translations and a blog on the lineage prayers of the Longchen Nyingtik.

The first publication is the Lineage Prayers for the Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse, according to the lineage of Dodrupchen. Dodrupchen Monastery, headed by the Dodrupchen Rinpoches, is one of the main seats of the Longchen Nyingtik tradition, and this particular version of the lineage prayers is one of the most widespread. For those who like to read more about the lineage prayers of the Longchen Nyingtik and the different traditions can find more information on our recent blog post.

Another text that belongs to the category of lineage prayers is the Supplication to the Lineage of the Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse. This text, a collection of short prayers to all the key figures in the lineage of the Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse, was compiled by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche for regular recitation in conjunction with any practice from the Longchen Nyingtik cycle.

Our final text for this month is Illuminating the Meaning of Empowerment: A Self-Initiation for the Female Practice of the Ḍākinī. This self-initiation (dak-juk) for the practice of Yumka Dechen Gyalmo was composed by Jigme Lingpa himself. Receiving empowerments in this way, he explains, is a means of purifying impairments and breakages of samaya and receiving inspiration and blessings, and should therefore be practised regularly and repeatedly.

The anniversary of the First Dodrupchen, Jigme Trinle Özer, fell in this month. Jigme Trinle Özer was the main lineage holder or 'Dharma-custodian' (chö-dak) of Jigme Lingpa.

དུས་གསུམ་ཀུན་མཁྱེན་པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་དང་།༎

Emanation of the great tertön Sangye Lingpa,

དབྱེར་མེད་གཏེར་ཆེན་སངས་རྒྱས་གླིང་པ་ཡི།

Who was indivisible from Padmasambhava, knower of the three times,

ཡང་སྤྲུལ་སྦས་པའི་རྣལ་འབྱོར་ཟོལ་བྲལ་བ།

You are free of deceit and a hidden yogi—

འཇིགས་མེད་འཕྲིན་ལས་འོད་ཟེར་གསོལ་བ་འདེབས།

Jigme Trinle Özer, I supplicate you.
