Report September 2022

This month we have added two new translations and published a blog post on Dukngal Rangdrol.

Our first text is Wisdom Essence of the Mighty One, A Daily Practice of Hayagrīva's Play of the Three Realms, from the Ocean of Gathered Teachings of the Awesome Ones, written by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. This shorter, daily practice is adapted from the full sādhana of Hayagrīva's Play of the Three Realms (rta mgrin khams gsum rol pa), which itself belongs to the Assembly of Awesome Ones (Palchen Düpa) cycle within the Longchen Nyingtik.

Our second text for this month is a new translation of the famous Tikle Gyachen, a practice focusing on Longchenpa: The Sealed Quintessence, The Innermost Secret Guru Practice of the Heart-Essence of the Vast Expanse. An indispensable preliminary to Dzogchen practice, Jigme Lingpa revealed the practice some time around 1761, during his second three-year retreat, then kept it secret for five years. This translation brings us closer to our aim of publishing all the sadhanas of the Longchen Nyingtik.

Finally we wrote an Analysis of a Collection of Dukngal Rangdrol Rituals. In this blog we present a translation of the table of contents of a liturgy or collection of rituals published at Dodrupchen Monastery of the Natural Liberation of Suffering (Dukngal Rangdrol) cycle of the Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse (Longchen Nyingtik). The purpose of this is to give an idea of the different texts that are available to Tibetan speakers. Many of these texts consists of rituals that are performed for the dead, such as the Guidance Practice (nedren)

Finally we wanted to point out a recently published translation on Lotsawa House, a Prayer for the Swift Rebirth of Dodrupchen Rinpoche by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

May the teaching of Longchenpa, sole ornament adorning the teachings of Buddha,

Of Jigme Lingpa, master of teaching and practice,

And of the peerless guru, be maintained until the very end of saṃsāra,

Through teaching and practice—hearing, contemplation and meditation.
