Report July 2024 - Yeshe Kuchok and Chatral’s Vajrakilaya

This month we published two new translations, one by Jigme Lingpa himself and one by Chatral Rinpoche.

We were truly delighted to publish a commentary on the famous Yeshe Kuchok confession prayer authored by Jigme Lingpa, called Message for Mantrikas: Illuminating the Ocean of Samayas, A Commentary on the Fourth Chapter of the Immaculate Confession Tantra. This is a word-by-word commentary on the Ultimate Inexpressible Confession practice—popularly known as Yeshe Kuchokma—the fourth chapter of the Immaculate Confession Tantra. The commentary belongs to the Collection of Discourses section of Jigme Lingpa’s writings.

Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche

Yeshe Kuchok is recited universally by all Nyingmapas and we therefore hope that this commentary will be of great benefit by shedding light on this important yet difficult to understand text. Last weekend, the great Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche also taught this text in Berlin. If his teachings become available, we will make sure to inform everyone.

Our second text is the Visualization for the Recitation of Vajrakīlaya: Overpowering the Forces of Māra, from the Heart-Essence of the Vast Expanse, written by Chatral Rinpoche. He compiled this description of the visualization for the mantra recitation of the Longchen Nyingtik's Vajrakīlaya, Vajrakīlaya: Overpowering the Forces of Māra (Phurba Düpung Zilnön) by extracting excerpts from Jigme Lingpa's Tantra System Vajrakīlaya (Gyüluk Phurba).

I have taken the threefold refuge but have little heartfelt faith.
I follow the threefold training, but have let my commitments slip.
Bless me and all those who are faint-hearted like me
That our faith may be firm and irreversible.
— Patrul Rinpoche, The Words of my Perfect Teacher, Part 2, Chapter One, Taking refuge, the foundation stone of all paths
