Report June 2024 - White Tara and Rigdzin Düpa Lineage Prayers
This month we published two new translations and started work on Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche’s Empowerment Manual.
Our first new text this month is a Prayer to the Lineage of White Tārā According to Atiśa's Tradition, attributed to Jigme Lingpa, which belongs to Atisa's tradition of White Tārā "Wish-Fulfilling Wheel" as practiced in the Longchen Nyingtik. The main sādhana is the composition of Jigme Lingpa, and although it is not among his revealed treasures, is part of the Longchen Nyingtik's core text collection.
Our second new text is The Jewel Necklace, A Prayer to the Lineage of the Gathering of Vidyādharas, from the Heart-Essence of the Vast Expanse, written by Adzom Gyalse Gyurme Dorje in 1956 at the behest of Pema Kunzang Rangdrol (1916–1984).
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche’s Empowerment Manual
Given the importance of this manual and in the anticipation that this empowerment manual will be given again and again in the future, we at the Longchen Nyingtik project have begun to translate this enormous text, counting more than 300 pages, which we will hope to finish in about a year’s time.
Before the time of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, several individual empowerment manuals had been written for the Longchen Nyingtik cycle by masters such as the First Dodrupchen, Jigme Trinle Özer (for example Rigdzin Düpa and Dukngal Rangdrol), Jamgön Kongtrul (Ridzin Düpa and Yumka Dechen Gyalmo) and Dodrupchen Jigme Tenpe Nyima (Yumka Dechen Gyalmo). Yet until Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche wrote his lengthy empowerment manual for the entire Longchen Nyingtik, there was no complete manual for all the empowerments. Jigme Lingpa’s Yeshe Kuchok Commentary
At the Longchen Nyingtik project we are in the final stages of translating Jigme Lingpa's commentary on the famous 'Yeshe Kuchok' prayer, "The Ultimate Inexpressible Confession", a popular confession practice that is extracted from the fourth chapter of the Immaculate Confession Tantra, Confession of Discord with the Wisdom Deities. It is found in the Nyingma Gyübum, the collection of tantras of the Nyingma tradition, and is universally recited by all Nyingmapas.
Since the words of the practice are profound and it is difficult to grasp their full meaning, Jigme Lingpa’s word-by-word commentary illuminates its meaning and helps us to understand the text.
